JAG CORPS EXTERNSHIP

THE JUDGE ADVOCATE GENERAL'S CORPS EXTERNSHIP

GET PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE WITH A JAG CORPS EXTERNSHIP

The Army JAG Corps Externship Program provides law students with practical legal experience working alongside military and civilian attorneys, paralegals, and military judges. Depending on the assignment, an extern may draft motions, interview clients, assist with depositions, prepare briefs, conduct investigations, draft information papers, or help an attorney prepare for a trial. Serving as an extern is an excellent opportunity for law students interested in learning more about the JAG Corps.

Externs are unpaid but may receive school credit if arranged with their law school. Externship dates and hours are flexible but must conform to the guidelines of the externship program at the student’s law school. Externships are only available to U.S. citizens.

LOCATIONS

Externships may be available at Army installations nationwide. Below is a list of locations where externs have served in the past.

SETTING UP AN EXTERNSHIP

If you want to serve as an extern, please contact the Externship Coordinator to determine available locations. Students should contact the Externship Coordinator at least three months before the requested externship start date to allow sufficient time for processing.
