Announcement of the Confirmation of
Colonel Michael J. Deegan to Brigadier General
I am pleased to officially announce, pursuant to his nomination by the President, that the United States Senate has confirmed Colonel Michael J. Deegan for promotion to Brigadier General, where he will assume the duties of Assistant Judge Advocate General for Military Law and Operations (Individual Mobilization Augmentee). He will succeed Brigadier General Gerald R. Krimbill, who was recently announced as the next Commanding General, United States Army Reserve Legal Command (USARLC).
Colonel Deegan’s military career as an Active Duty and U.S. Army Reserve Judge Advocate has been exemplary, a testament to his superb skills and abilities. He commissioned as a second lieutenant through the Reserve Officer Training Corps upon graduation from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. Following his graduation from Hofstra University Law School, Colonel Deegan transferred into the JAG Corps and served nearly six years on active duty, first serving at the 2d Armored Division as a trial counsel and next as a defense counsel at III Corps, Ft. Hood, Texas. He then served as a Claims Counsel at the U.S. Army Claims Service, Ft. Meade, Maryland. Colonel Deegan’s United States Army Reserve assignments include: Deputy Commanding Officer (East), USARLC; Staff Judge Advocate, USARLC; Staff Judge Advocate, 377th Theater Sustainment Command; Commander, 7th Legal Operations Detachment; Security Justice Advisor, United States Security Coordinator to Israel and the Palestinian Authority; Assistant Chief (DIMA), International and Operational Law Division, Office of The Judge Advocate General; Deputy Staff Judge Advocate, Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa; Command Judge Advocate and Chief, International Law and Military Justice, 353d Civil Affairs Command; and various positions with the 7th Legal Support Organization.
His military awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster; Meritorious Service Medal with 1 Silver Oak Leaf Cluster; Army Commendation Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Parachutist Badge; and Air Assault Badge.
In his civilian capacity, Colonel Deegan is an in-house counsel for the New York Power Authority in White Plains, New York, specializing in energy regulatory law. He is a member of the New York Bar.
