I am pleased to officially announce, pursuant to his nomination by the President, that the United States Senate has confirmed Colonel Kyson M. Johnson for promotion to Brigadier General in the Reserve of the Army.

Colonel Johnson has contributed 23 years of dedicated service to our Army and Nation. His career has been exemplary and a testament to his superb skills and abilities. Colonel Johnson currently serves as the Chief of Staff for the U.S. Army Reserve Command. His numerous prior reserve assignments include: Commander, 151st Legal Operations Detachment (LOD), Alexandria, VA; Staff Judge Advocate, 95th Training Division, Fort Sill, Oklahoma; Deputy Commander, 1st LOD, San Antonio, Texas; Brigade Judge Advocate, 90th Sustainment Brigade, North Little Rock, Arkansas; and Claims Judge Advocate, Senior Defense Counsel, and Deputy Regional Defense Counsel, 22d Legal Support Organization, Grand Prairie, Texas.  

Colonel Johnson’s mobilized positions include: Special Victim’s Counsel Deputy Program Manager, Pentagon; Senior Trial Counsel, Fort Lewis, Washington; and Senior Trial Counsel, III Corps, Fort Cavazos, Texas. Colonel Johnson deployed to Iraq with III Corps in 2004 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  

Colonel Johnson received a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Business Administration from Dallas Baptist University in 1992, and a Juris Doctor from Texas Wesleyan School of Law (now Texas A&M) in 1995. In 2018, he was a distinguished graduate (with honors) from the U.S. Army War College Distance Education Program with a Master’s Degree in Strategic Studies.  

In his civilian capacity, Colonel Johnson serves as the Chief Prosecutor and Fraud Counsel for the Texas Department of Insurance.

We are exceedingly pleased that Kyson is joining our General Officer ranks. Please take the opportunity to congratulate Colonel Johnson and his family as they continue to selflessly and honorably serve the Judge Advocate General’s Corps, the United States Army, and the Nation.
