The Judge Advocates Association's (JAA) annual awards season is here! Each year, the Judge Advocates Association (JAA) solicits nominations from the Judge Advocate General Corps of each service for a series of awards, described further below. You are invited to submit nominations to SIO at usarmy.pentagon.hqda-otjag.mbx.jagcorps-info@army.mil NLT 21 February 2025.
1. The Outstanding Career Active Duty Judge Advocate Award recognizes an O-4/O-5 on active duty, who is over the age of 35 at the time of the nomination, and who has a demonstrated record of outstanding professional accomplishments, service to community, and development of subordinates. The awardee will be honored at the yearly JAA Awards Banquet on 8 May 2025 at the Army and Navy Country Club in Arlington, Virginia.
2. The Outstanding Career Guard and Reserve Judge Advocate Award recognizes an O-5/O-6 who is a member of the National Guard or the Reserve, who is over the age of 35 at the time of nomination, and who has a demonstrated record of outstanding professional accomplishments that may include a combination of active duty in a mobilized Title 10 or Title 32 status and inactive duty reflecting the ethos of the “citizen soldier,” service to community, and development of subordinates. The awardee will be honored at the yearly JAA Awards Banquet on 8 May 2025 at the Army and Navy Country Club in Arlington, Virginia.
3. The American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division (YLD) and the JAA Outstanding Young Military Lawyer Awards recognize the legal contributions of one young active-duty judge advocate from each uniformed service, who is under the age of 36 or first admitted to practice by his or her bar association within the past 5 years at the time of nomination, and who has a demonstrated record of outstanding professional accomplishments, service to community, and development of subordinates. The awardees will be honored at the annual ABA YLD meeting that takes place in August of each year and more details from the ABA YLD will follow. Awardees will also be invited to the JAA/JAF annual Awards Dinner.
4. The JAA Outstanding Appellate Government and Appellate Defense Advocacy Awards are awarded to the best Appellate Government Advocate and the best Appellate Defense Advocate for each service. Awardees will be honored at the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces annual conference, which will take place 14-15 May 2025. Awardees will also be invited to the JAA/JAF Annual Awards Dinner.
