Announcement of the Confirmation of Colonel Steven M. Ranieri to Brigadier General
I am pleased to officially announce, pursuant to his nomination by the President, that the United States Senate has confirmed Colonel Steven M. Ranieri for promotion to Brigadier General, after which he will assume the duties of Commander, United States Army Legal Services Agency.
Colonel Ranieri has contributed 28 years of dedicated service to our Army and our Nation. He has excelled as a lawyer and a leader in challenging and diverse assignments in our Regiment. Colonel Ranieri has served with distinction as a Staff Judge Advocate for the 3d Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia, and a Deputy Staff Judge Advocate for the 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. He has served as the Chief, Plans Branch, Personnel, Plans, and Training Office, Office of The Judge Advocate General (OTJAG), Pentagon; Chief, General Litigation Branch, United States Army Legal Services Agency (USALSA), Fort Belvoir, Virginia; and Chief, Judge Advocate Recruiting Office, USALSA, Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Colonel Ranieri’s other assignments include Brigade Judge Advocate, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia and Operation IRAQI FREEDOM; Special Assistant United States Attorney, Civil Division, Department of Justice, Alexandria, Virginia and Washington, DC; Litigation Attorney, USALSA, Arlington, Virginia; Defense Counsel, United States Army Trial Defense Service, Fort Belvoir, Virginia and Operation IRAQI FREEDOM; and Trial Counsel, Administrative Law Attorney, and Legal Assistance Attorney, 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Washington. He currently serves as the Executive Officer, OTJAG, Pentagon. COL Ranieri also served for three years as an enlisted Soldier in the Signal Corps.
Colonel Ranieri received a Bachelor in Business Administration from Kent State University, a Master of Military Art and Science in Security and Conflict Studies from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, a Master of Science in National Resource Strategy from the Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy, a Juris Doctor from Case Western Reserve University, and a Master of Laws in Military Law from the Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School. He was commissioned in 1995 from the Reserve Officer Training Corps and granted an educational delay for law school.
