The 43rd Basic Federal Litigation Course is scheduled for 8-11 September 2025. This introductory course, which is a critical component of the Army’s commitment to transformational readiness, cultivates and develops litigation leaders among Department of Defense (DoD) military and civilian attorneys assigned to–or pending assignment to–a federal civil (not criminal) litigation billet.

The course strengthens vital functional knowledge and skills for DoD attorneys practicing civil litigation in federal district courts and courts of appeals by covering subjects such as: the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, case management, discovery, pleadings and motion practice, official immunity, and mediation in federal courts. This course cultivates and develops litigation leaders among DoD military and civilian attorneys selected to attend.

Attendees must be DoD military or civilian attorneys who are serving in–or pending assignment to–a federal civil (not criminal) litigation position. Paralegals and legal administrators who support federal civil litigation may also apply.

The course will be held in-person at the U.S. Army Advocacy Center on Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Attendance at the course is by INVITATION ONLY. Due to the emphasis on face-to-face collaboration and engagement in practical exercises, there is no virtual attendance. The training contributes directly to the Army’s focus on readiness, warfighter support, and institutional agility by building litigation capabilities that are responsive to today’s environment.

All prospective students must complete the online application, which will be reviewed by the course managers for approval/disapproval prior to ATRRS registration. The deadline for submitting applications is 4 August 2025. To apply, please submit an application on JAGCNet at https://www.jagcnet.army.mil/ACRegistration/register/112-43rd-Federal-Litigation-Course.

Participants will be provided with certificates of attendance which they can file with their state licensing authority to seek continuing education credit.
