U.S. Army Claims Service, Tort Claims Division

 

It is the mission of the Tort Claims Division to:

 

  • Investigate, process, and settle administrative, non-contractural tort claims filed against the U.S. Army within its areas of operation, or against the Department of Defense within assigned areas of single-service claims responsibility.

 

  • Investigate, process, and settle affirmative claims on behalf of the U.S. Army.

 

  • Develop doctrine and policies for the processing of tort and affirmative claims.

 

  • Monitor, guide and evaluate field claims offices worldwide.

 

  • Provide training to tort and affirmative claims personnel.

 

  • Ensure tort claims investigations are adequate to support litigation in the event a claim is not administratively settled.
