The 79th Basic Court Reporter Course will be held from 17 March 2025 to 2 May 2025.
The suspense to enroll into the course is 28 February 2025.
The course is open to both Soldiers and Civilian personnel.
Course Scope: This course provides Paralegal Specialists with the training necessary to perform Court Reporter duties. The course focuses on essential Eclipse editing techniques and court reporter training for Army Paralegal NCOs and Paralegal Specialists. Included in the curriculum are the following topics: Eclipse; basics of court reporting (grammar and proofreading); court-martial terminology; stages of trial; courtroom management; verbatim records of trial, post-trial, and preparation of records of trial. Length: 7 weeks
Prerequisites: Attendees must possess 27D, Paralegal Specialist, as a primary MOS, and be in the grade of E4 through E6 (Soldiers in the grade of E1 through E3 and those in the grade of E7 are approved on a case-by-case basis); pass a hearing test; and meet height and weight requirements IAW AR 600-9. Students must have 24 months' time in service remaining upon completion of the course. Students need to be available for a 2-year utility tour as a court reporter upon completion of the course.
Civilian personnel must be in an authorized position within a Staff Judge Advocate’s Office with an approved position description document that includes court reporter duties. Civilian personnel need an SJA recommendation for the course. The SJA’s recommendation must state that the training is authorized based on mission and applicable civilian personnel requirements and training authorizations.
