On 10 January 2025, at a general court-martial convened at Fort Bliss, TX, SFC Brent A. Kerns, U.S. Army, was convicted by a military panel composed of officers and enlisted members, contrary to his pleas, of one specification of attempting to commit a lewd act upon a child and one specification of solicitation to produce and distribute child pornography in violation of Articles 80 and 82, UCMJ. The accused was acquitted of one specification of obstruction of justice in violation of Article 131b, UCMJ. The military judge sentenced the accused to be reduced to the grade of E-1, to be confined for 48 months, and to be discharged from the service with a dishonorable discharge.
