On 6 January 2026, at a general court-martial convened at Fort Campbell, KY, SSG Ariel I. Matute, U.S. Army, was convicted by a military judge, contrary to his pleas, of two specifications of attempted abusive sexual contact, three specifications of abusive sexual contact, and two specifications of assault consummated by a battery in violation of Articles 80, 120, and 128, UCMJ. The accused was acquitted of three specifications of attempt to violate a lawful general regulation, in violation of Article 80, UCMJ. The military judge sentenced the accused to be reduced to the grade of E-1, to be confined for 180 days, and a bad conduct discharge.
