It is with deep sadness that I inform you of the death of Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Andrew W. Bettwy. LTC Bettwy died on 18 September 2011. He was 66 years old.

LTC Bettwy was raised in Phoenix, Arizona, and attended college and law school at the University of Arizona. He enlisted in the US Army Reserve in 1968 and spent much of his career as a Judge Advocate in the 78th Legal Support Organization. In 2000, he retired from the Army Reserve after 32 years of service. As a civilian lawyer, LTC Bettwy was a legal expert in utility rates, beginning in 1975 with his tenure as Chief Hearing Officer for the Arizona Corporation Commission, and ending with his retirement in 2007 from Southwest Gas Corporation in Las Vegas, Nevada.

LTC Bettwy is fondly remembered for his devotion to his family. He is survived by his wife, Maureen; son, Andrew J. Bettwy; grandchildren, Kyra, Nick, and Alex; sister, Maria Wolfinger Bettwy; and brother, LTC Sam Bettwy, who is a Judge Advocate in the 79th Sustainment Support Command. LTC Bettwy was preceded in death by his mother, Janice, and his father, Andrew L. Bettwy, who served during World War II in a reconnaissance squadron in the European Theater of Operations.

Services will be on Saturday, 1 October 2011, at 1100 at Christ the King Catholic Community, 4925 S. Torrey Pines Drive, Las Vegas, Nevada 89118. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in LTC Bettwy's name to Brophy College Preparatory at http://giving.brophyprep.org/memorial.html.
