On 23 December 2021, MAJ Jeremy Watford (Brigade Judge Advocate, TF Raider) and CPT Dave Mabey (Legal Advisor, SOTF-L) completed the Manchu March at Erbil Air Base, Iraq.
The Manchu Mile commemorates an 85-mile forced march by Soldiers from the 9th Infantry Regiment during the Boxer Rebellion in 1900. 9th Infantry Soldiers marched from Taku Bar to Tientsin, where they immediately went into action rescuing besieged foreign diplomats and missionaries from insurgent Boxers, earning the honorary title "Manchus." Over 500 Coalition members from 6 countries participated in the Manchu Mile, carrying a 35 lb. ruck while completing the 25 mile ruck march. Finishers receive the Manchu Belt Buckle, the only unit belt buckle authorized for wear by the Department of the Army.
