CPT Ladd’s unit memorial will be held at the 1st Armored Division Chapel, Fort Bliss, Texas, at 1300 on 20 June 2018.  Uniform is OCPs or comparable civilian dress for attendees.  In lieu of flowers, you might consider a donation to the El Paso Humane Society in Chip’s name, https://www.hselpaso.org/donate, where Chip volunteered.

 

NOTICE OF PASSING – Captain Charles D. “Chip” Ladd, U.S. Army

We regret to inform you of the untimely death of Captain (CPT) Charles D. “Chip” Ladd, Ft. Bliss Trial Defense Service.  Chip passed on 2 May 2018 at the age of thirty-five.  We extend our most sincere condolences to Chip’s daughter, Katherine; his mother, Dr. Elizabeth Ladd; his father, Colonel (Retired) Edward Ladd (Air Force), his aunt, Norma Green; and his brothers and sisters, Major Teddy Ladd (Air Force) and his wife, Emily Ladd; John Ladd; James Ladd; and Melana Meese.

Captain Ladd was born in Union City, Tennessee on October 15, 1982.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Aeronautical Studies from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in 2005 and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 2009.  Chip joined the U.S. Air Force in 2002, deploying in 2003 to Pakistan on a mission to launch and recover UAVs, and deploying again in 2004 to Iraq.  Captain Ladd joined the Tennessee National Guard in 2007 as a Military Intelligence Officer, deployed to Iraq again in 2009, and finally commissioned in the U.S. Army JAG Corps in 2011.  CPT Ladd was both Air Assault and Airborne qualified and fluent in Spanish. 

CPT Ladd was serving as defense counsel at the Fort Bliss Field Office. Prior to that, he served as the Chief, Client Services, Camp Henry, Korea; and Chief, Administrative Law, and Trial Counsel, Patch Barracks, Stuttgart, Germany.  Chip was headed to Joint Base San Antonio to serve as Contract and Fiscal Law Attorney, Installation Management Command, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. 

Chip was a dear friend to many and made lasting contributions during his relatively short tenure in the JAG Corps.  We will share details regarding arrangements and other significant events as they become available.  Please keep the Ladd Family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
