Fort Meade Legal Personnel on a staff ride to Monocacy Battlefield. On 26 May 2011 the U.S. Army Claims Service sponsored a staff ride for all legal personnel in the Fort Meade area to the Civil War battlefield of Monocacy, near Frederick, Maryland. The battle, which was fought on 9 July 1864, resulted in a Confederate victory, although the resulting delay is credited with saving the capital of Washington D.C. from invasion.
