Keeping it in the Family. On 10 May 2010, 1LT John T. Castlen joined his father, COL Stephen Castlen, as the only father-son team currently on active duty with the JAGC. 1LT Castlen is a graduate of the 181st JOBC; while COL Castlen currently serves on the Army Trial Judiciary with duty at Fort Benning. In that role, COL Castlen joins his two brothers on the bench - older brother Thomas Castlen recently assumed senior status as a Circuit Judge for Daviess County, Kentucky, while brother Joseph Castlen currently serves as Circuit Judge in the same court. The Castlen brothers come from a family of seven, none with legal backgrounds. The tradition now continues through the next generation of Castlen children.
