National Guard Bureau Special Victims' Counsel Program attends the debut of "Hello Girls" documentary at the Women in Military Service for America Memorial in Washington, DC.
"Hello Girls" was the colloquial name for female, American, bilingual (French and English) switchboard operators called to the Front by General John J. Pershing in 1917. They were formally known as the Signal Corps Female Telephone Operators Unit and stand as Americas first (formalized) female soldiers, but were not recognized as "veterans" until 60 years later in 1977 when few were still alive to enjoy their rights and recognition. The National Guard Bureau Special Victims' Counsel Program Office was fortunate to see the documentary detailing the history of the "Hello Girls" at the Women in Military Service for America Memorial. Left to right front row: SFC Victoria Pridemore, Lt Col Tyler Buckley, CPT Carina Roselli; left to right back row: MSG Cheryl Kolb, LTC Stephen Glymph, MAJ Peter Williams, CW2 Roger Wilson, and CW2 Jamaal Jackson.
