In 1950, General Curtis LeMay brought Judo to the former USAF Strategic Command in order to prepare Airmen for possible hand to hand combat. In December 2011, under the sponsorship of MG William Grimsley, the US Army Element Commander and Chief of Staff, US Strategic Command, hand to hand combat returned to Offutt Air Force Base in the Form of the Modern Army Combative Level 1 course taught to Soldiers Sailors and Airmen by expert trainers from Fort Hood. Above left MAJ Geoffrey DeWeese, Assistant Staff Judge Advocate, US Strategic Command, receives his completion certificate from MG Grimsley. To the right MAJ DeWeese achieves a clinch hold against SGT Jason Reyes, an instructor from Fort Hood.
