Chiefs Warrant Officer Five Artavia Edwards and Brian Peterson, members of the California National Guard Marathon Team and Army National Guard Legal Administrators, competed in the 34th Annual Lincoln/National Guard Marathon
Chiefs Warrant Officer Five Artavia Edwards and Brian Peterson, members of the California National Guard Marathon Team and Army National Guard Legal Administrators, competed in the 34th Annual Lincoln/National Guard Marathon in Lincoln, Nebraska on 1 May 2011.
The annual 26.2 mile event hosts the National Guard Marathon Trials where Army and Air Guard members representing each state and territory compete for positions on the National Guard Marathon Team. CW5’s Edwards and Peterson have both competed as members of the National Team in the past.
CW5 Edwards completed her 50th marathon (14 Lincoln) in a time of 4 hours 19 minutes and earned 3rd place in her age group amongst National Guard female competitors. Running his 74th marathon (28th Lincoln) in 3 hours 37 minutes, CW5 Peterson placed 1st in the National Guard men’s 55 and over division and won the Road Runners Club of America Senior Master award as the first male 60 and over finisher.
In July, both Edwards and Peterson will represent Team USA in the 2011 World Masters Association Track and Field Championships in the marathon event.
