The interment in Arlington National Cemetery of COL (Ret) Bob Johnson, will take place on Friday, 20 January 2012, at 1500.  Those wishing to attend should arrive at the Arlington National Cemetery Administration Building approximately 30 minutes prior.

For military personnel attending the interment ceremony, the uniform is the Army Service Uniform (ASU) with Service Cap or beret.

Announcement of Death - Colonel Robert Sherrill Johnson, Jr., US Army, Retired

 

It is with deep sadness that I inform you of the death of Colonel (Retired) Robert (Bob) Sherrill Johnson, Jr.  COL Johnson died on 27 October 2011 in Fairfax, Virginia.  He was 61 years old.

 

COL Johnson graduated from the Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina with a bachelor's degree and earned his law degree from the University of South Carolina in 1979.  During his distinguished career as a Judge Advocate, COL Johnson served in a variety of positions; including, Chief, Developments, Doctrine & Literature Department, The Judge Advocate General's School (TJAGSA), Charlottesville, Virginia; Staff Judge Advocate, US Army Criminal Investigation Command, Fort Belvoir, Virginia; and Legal Advisor, US Army Inspector General Agency, Pentagon, Washington, DC; culminating with service as an Appellate Judge on the Army Court of Criminal Appeals.  While on the Court, COL Johnson deployed to Afghanistan.  COL Johnson retired from the Army in 2006 and began working for the Transportation Security Administration in 2007 where he was Assistant Chief Counsel for Information Law. 

 

Bob Johnson will be deeply missed by many.  He is survived by his parents, Robert S. and Betty Jo Johnson; sister, Debbie Woodward; son, Zach Johnson; daughter, Jessy McDonough; and grandson, Jack.  COL Johnson was formerly married to Kim Dillard.

 

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, 3 November 2011 at 1400 at Pohick Episcopal Church, 9301 Richmond Highway, Lorton, Virginia 22079.  Family will be present at 1300 to receive visitors and a reception will be held immediately after the memorial.  Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery on 20 January 2012 at 1500.  Cards and condolences may be sent to the family at 6911 Spanker Drive, Burke, Virginia  22015.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association (https://donate.americanheart.org/ecommerce/aha/aha_index.jsp) or the Lorton Community Action Center (http://www.lortonaction.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=52&Itemid=58) in Bob's name.
