LTC Tom S. Hong, DSJA at Eighth Army OSJA, participated as a panelist at the 2024 REAIM Summit (Responsible AI in the Military Domain) held in Seoul, Korea. His breakout session was entitled "Beyond the Black Box: Unpacking Explainability in Military AI" and his co-panelists were professors and researchers from the Netherlands, Czech Republic, and Australia. The summit, which drew participants from various countries, highlighted the need for more U.S. Army JAGs, civilian attorneys, and paraprofessionals to engage in AI research and discourse. Given the importance of AI to the world's military, the US JAGC's active involvement could significantly shape international consensus on AI's legal implications in military applications.
