COL (ret) Elizabeth R. Smith, Jr. was the first female Judge Advocate to reach the rank of Colonel/0-6 in the Corps. A 1950 graduate of the University of Kentucky, Smith served almost 25 years as a Judge Advocate. She retired from the Army in 1978 and died in 2007.
