The Legal Career Program (CP-56) announces centrally funded online Competitive Professional Development (CPD) opportunities for civilian attorneys:

Motion Skills (6-8 May 2020) -- This course is specifically designed to develop oral advocacy skills, as well as enhance knowledge of procedural and substantive laws.  The three core motions covered are: Motion to Compel/Motion for Protective Order, Motion for Summary Judgement, and Motion for Preliminary Injunction.  This course will utilize an online platform for attendees to watch a discussion of motion skills, as well as demonstrations of those skills, and then will have the attendees practice live with feedback from the instructors.

Writing Persuasive Briefs (14-15 May 2020) -- The goal of any type of legal writing is to have the intended audience form an opinion without having to do any additional research.  In order for this to be accomplished, the writer must effectively lay the information out in a clear, concise and compelling manner.  This course teaches a three-step process to give attendees the necessary tools to be effective, persuasive writers – including research, organization, and polishing.  This course is designed to strengthen all legal writing, not just briefs.

Deposition Skills (17-19 May 2020) -- Depositions set the stage for success or failure at trial.  This course, will help you discover and master techniques for taking and defending depositions while finding a style that best suits your personality.  This course will utilize an online platform for teaching via learning-by-doing technique in your own home or office.
