The Legal Career Program (CP56) announces a limited number of centrally funded Competitive Professional Development (CPD) opportunities for civilian attorneys:

• Civilian attorneys who are assigned as ethics counselors are invited to apply for funding to attend the Ethics Counselor Course at the Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School in Charlottesville, VA (TJAGLCS).  The course will be held from 22-25 October 2019.  Topics will include:  gifts, conflicts of interest, outside activities, post-government employment restrictions, completion and review of financial disclosure reports, private organization relationships, travel and transportation rules, the JER, dealing with contractors in the workplace, and running an effective ethics program.  Applications are due by 26 August 2019.  If you are not seeking centralized funding for attendance, there is no need to apply through CP-56.

• Civilian attorneys practicing in the area of cyber law or have a need to receive cyber law training are invited to apply for funding to attend the Cyber Law Course at the Air Force Judge Advocate General’s School at Maxwell Air Force Base.  The course will be held from 4-8 November 2019.  The course will review network operations, include lessons on DoD offensive, defensive, and intelligence-related cyberspace missions, cyber-specific domestic and international rules relating to armed conflict, intelligence gathering, and law enforcement activities.  Applications are due by 26 August 2019.  If you are not seeking centralized funding for attendance, there is no need to apply through CP-56.

• GS-14/15 civilian attorneys practicing primarily in the areas of contract and fiscal law are invited to apply for funding to attend the Government Contract and Fiscal Law New Developments Course at TJAGLCS.  The course will be held 5-8 November 2019.  The course will provide updates for senior government attorneys on significant changes in government contract and fiscal law policy.  Applications are due by 6 September 2019.  If you are not seeking centralized funding for attendance, there is no need to apply through CP-56.

• Civilian attorneys are invited to apply for tuition funding to attend the MSPB & EEOC Hearing Practices Week in Washington, DC from 18-22 November 2019. The course is a hands-on week-long workshop that focuses on practicing in administrative hearings before the MSPB/EEOC. Not only will attendees learn about developing an effective case, but they will also try a mock case before and Administrative Law Judge and receive a critique of their performance.  Deadline for application is 6 September 2019.
